Respiratory and Nervous System:
In this project, we worked on the Respiratory and Nervous System and were assigned to groups and had to choose two body systems to work on. For our group, we chose the respiratory and nervous system. After choosing our systems, we had to make a model containing function of each system and a function where they both work together. Our final project is on the left.
If it is not visible, there are marbles standing on top of the sticks at the top. When the lower stick is removed, the 1st marble travels down the tube. After going through the pipe, the marble touches the bike pump. This represents the interaction between the nervous and respiratory system when the nervous system sends impulses to make you breathe. After the bike pump is hit, the balloon inflates. This represents the respiratory system because the respiratory system controls gas exchange, which includes breathing in and out. After this is done, the second stick is removed. This causes the 2nd marble to hit the bike pump, cancelling the action. The marbles going through the pipe show the nervous system because they represent the impulses traveling through the body.
While we were creating the model, we made a presentation describing each system, the model, and how and why we made it. The presentation is shown below:

Content:
Here are the definitions of the terms we learnt about (in relation to our project).
Respiratory System - The system consisting of specific organs and structures used for gas exchange. (ex: lungs) It is the process of getting rid of carbon dioxide and taking in oxygen.
Lungs - Receives command from motor nerves when to inhale and exhale
Windpipe - Filters air that you inhale and gets rids of the germs (sneezing)
Bronchus - A major air passage that cuts from the windpipe
Larynx - The hollow muscular organ that forms an air passage to your lungs and holds your vocal cords together
Oxygen - A chemical gas found in the air that is necessary for survival and life on Earth.
Nervous System - The system that carries impulses throughout the body
Neurons - Neurons are sent from the brain to transport impulses
Spinal Cord - Neurons use the spinal cord to travel through the body quickly. The passageway of the neurons.
Motor Neurons - Transmit signals from brain to muscles
Sensory Neurons - Transmit signals from sensory nerves to brain

Reflection:
I am proud of the collaboration and communication during this product. Everyone contributed close to equally during this project and we all were driven to get it done. One thing that I felt like I did well in was follow the leader well. You see, in every group you need one leader and one leader only. Since I was not the leader for this group, I made sure to follow the instructions and do my part (the presentation) thoroughly. Another thing that I felt like I did well was the fact that I was very calm and did not try to take charge. For me, it is hard to not take control of projects because I feel comfortable when objectives like these are in my hands. But during this project, I tried not interfering in leading and just tried to follow and follow well.
However, we must weigh in our mistakes. I felt like we could’ve managed our time better and thought of more ways to improve our project as a group instead of settling for standard. One thing that I could’ve improved on in this being more focused. Although I did get the assignments done, I feel like I should have finished them faster. This would make for less worrying and more time that I could spend helping on something else. Another thing that I could improve on is adding details to make our project exceed standards. I felt like we were done with the project early, but I could’ve tried to add some more to the project to make it better and go from good to excellent. In conclusion, I feel like this was a good project but we could’ve made it a great one if we worked harder and faster.
